Crestwood College in Boyatt Wood hosts peer of the relm ‘Lord Stoneham of Droxford’. The visit was part of a new initiative under the House of Lords “peers in schools” programme.
Lord Stoneham met with students from the Student Council and Year 11’s studying GCSE Citizenship. Lord Stoneham explained how the House of Lords operates and the roles and responsibilities of its members. The visit also involved a session during which student had the opportunity ask some very perceptive questions.
The visit was a great success, Krista Dawkins, Head-teacher remarked, “The visit provided an exceptional valuable experience; students questioning was very pertinent to current local issues and Lord Stoneham was very informative and engaging.”
Lakhvinder Kaur (Head-girl) said, ”it was good to learn information from a key person rather than research from books and internet resources. I felt he was a really nice guy and very down to earth.”
Dan Hallett (Head-boy) commented “It was a really useful insight into how the political system works. I felt it was an extremely effective meeting with someone who actually is involved in the process that shapes our everyday lives.”
