James was a former pupil at Crestwood College and left in 1987. Due to the bi-election in Eastleigh, he was in the local area and asked to visit his ex-school outside of his official duties. James was very impressed with what he saw and felt the school was a safe and welcoming environment.

Year 7 students, in an Assembly, heard about his career and his successes and setbacks on his road to Parliament. James finished the Assembly by telling the students that anything was possible and that they should not be put off by setbacks in their life, but should strive forward to achieve their goals and aspirations.

James has vowed to continue his links with Crestwood and will visit in the future when he is in the area visiting his parents.
