Year 11 Go Nuts over Doughnuts

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts

Our BTEC Business Studies year 11 students have just completed their Personal Selling unit for their Business coursework. For this they had to complete a variety of different tasks that were based around selling skills, such as face to face sales, closing sales, taking orders and understanding how to run a small business. The project was based on Krispy Kreme and required the students to complete tasks in market research, marketing and of course sales. Students had to find customers and use persuasive techniques to get them to order at least one doughnut; the business students had to use their selling skills to gain sales. There was a prize of 12 free doughnuts per person for the group which sold the most doughnuts. After all of these orders had been placed after a 2 week period, the doughnuts were ordered and the groups had to inform their customers of the delivery date and the amount of money they needed to pay. There were many great selling performances from the students, in particular Rebekah Ealey and Hollie Barber who sold left over doughnuts in the crescent on the second day. However, the winning group led by Robert Felstead and including Harry Hawker, Liam McFall, and Mollie Pope sold an impressive 249 doughnuts’ making a massive contribution to the project.

When selling the doughnuts the groups were incredibly enthusiastic and enjoyed this part of the project greatly. The final amount of doughnuts sold count was an amazing 924 with a profit of over £200. This profit has been donated to Winchester Churches Nightshelter to support homeless people by providing them with food, water and shelter over the Christmas period.

Well done to all of the year 11 business students for making this such a great success.
