Positive COVID-19 Case, Year 8

Dear Parent/ Carer,
I apologise for this late email on a Monday evening but unfortunately we have a child test positive for COVID in Year 8 at the Shakespeare Campus. Unfortunately, we have taken the decision to isolate the whole of Shakespeare Year 8 due to the following:
  • the large number of students that are close contacts of this child, both in and out of school.
  • Three students from Year 8 at Shakespeare have been sent home today with symptoms of COVID and are awaiting tests.

Given the timing, near the end of term, we feel this is the safest and best course of action, to ensure your Christmas is as normal as it can be. .This means the following:

  • Your child will need to remain at home in isolation until the end of Thursday 17th December, which is 14 days from the two day period prior to the positive test being taken.
  • Your child will return to school on Friday 18th December, if you wish them to. As it is only half a day on this date, I will leave this decision to you as parents.
  • Your family DO NOT need to isolate, unless anyone in your household develops symptoms.
  • Your child does not need to be tested unless they develop symptoms.
  • If your child is tested and you receive a negative result they still need to isolate for the full period.
  • Online learning will commence as soon as possible for your child, Mr Birtwhistle will send out details tomorrow.
  • Free School meal students will receive a food parcel delivery as soon as this can be arranged.
I do apologise but due to the numbers of students involved we are unable to make individual contact by telephone but emails have been sent to parents with telephone contacts if you need to speak to someone.
Once we have had the test results from the children sent home today, we may well review this and bring your child back earlier as they are identified as not a close contact. Please do await further communication from us.
The normal notification letter from Public Health England will be issued tomorrow morning.
