Business Studies

The BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate gives learners the knowledge, understanding and skills that they need to prepare for employment. The BTEC offer’s flexibility and a choice of emphasis through the optional units and it is the equivalent of two GCSE’s.

The BTEC course has been designed to address the needs of learners in specialist areas including:

  • Finance both personal and business, which supports developments of basic financial principles
  • Working in business teams and team leading
  • Personal selling
  • Enterprise and business start up

The BTEC comprises of units internally assessed through coursework. There is no final examination in this course at present. Students will be required to produce an assignment for each unit which will be graded with a pass, merit or the highest award a distinction.

On successful completion of a BTEC qualification, students can progress to a level 3 BTEC at college and achieve a university degree in Business studies.

The units we will cover in Year 9, 10 and 11 are as follows:

  • Business purposes, looking at how organisations operate
  • Business organisations, which looks at aims and objectives of organisations and they are run internally
  • Financial forecasting for businesses. Students will learn about cost, revenue, profit, cash flow and break even
  • Personal selling in business. This unit allows the students to understand and to demonstrate their personal selling skills
  • Business online, looking into how to set up and run a business online
