Physical Education

Physical Education is the curricular and extended curricular learning in which students engage within a broad and balanced range of PE activities. It includes students’ National Curriculum statutory entitlement in PE and the range of lunchtime and immediately after school PE and sports activities that are organised and managed as part of a school’s programme.

Through these activities students will develop their fine and gross motor skills, improve their capacity to solve physical problems and refine their physical performance. They will learn how to monitor, evaluate and improve physical performances by linking visual-kinaesthetic learning to their cognitive understanding of PE activities. Through each physical activity students will develop their knowledge, skills and understanding of safe practice, of how fitness affects performance, and of the beneficial effects of exercise on health, encouraging positive life choices for the future.

During the next academic year, students will continue to take part in the exciting and varied core PE programme and students will have the opportunity to use some of their upper school time to take the Sports Leader Award. This is a recognised award in leading groups in physical activity, with Crestwood students supporting our local primary Schools in a number of sporting activities.

The last academic year saw Crestwood students successfully compete at District, County and Regional level and take part in a wide variety of extra-curricula activities. The season has seen regular fixtures in volleyball, basketball, football, netball, hockey, cricket and athletics. Recently Crestwood won 3 of the 5 boys District football leagues and the U15 boys basketball team won the County cup. In the 2012 season the year 11 football team won their district league and the Hampshire County Cup, winning the final 2-0 at Fratton Park.

During the 2012 Summer Term, Mr Brown led a very successful Water Sports Trip to Spain with over 40 students enjoying the excellent learning environment to develop skills in canoeing, snowballing, windsurfing and sailing. Our bi-annual ski trip to Austria is planned to leave in April 2013.

Our new 30 Station fitness suite, sports hall, drama studio and tennis courts continue to provide top class facilities for Crestwood Students and the local community.
